A US grandmaster, credited with helping introduce the game to a whole new audience, had to deal with unproven allegations of cheating that are believed to have taken a toll on him.
The death of 29-year-old US chess grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky - credited with popularising the game and a high-speed version of it in the digital era - has reignited a debate over the allegations of cheating in the sport and the hostility he endured as a result of them.
