NEW DELHI: Congress leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday intensified his attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the Central government over ceasefire with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, and called PM Modi the "Prem Chopra in rallies" who "cried in front of Donald Trump."The remark came as he raised questions about the ceasefire with Islamabad. Khera took direct aim at Modi’s silence in response to US President Donald Trump’s claim of mediating the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan, accusing the Prime Minister of compromising national self-respect."It’s been over a month. We are constantly asking this question, sir, why is this deal being made?" Khera said at a press briefing.Questioning why the terrorists responsible for the April 22 Pahalgam attack have not been caught yet, Khera asked, "We are asking what happened to the terrorists in Pahalgam. We are asking under what conditions the ceasefire took place. We are asking where are Hafiz Saeed, Azhar Masood, Dawood Ibrahim, and many other terrorists. The same group that has been involved in several attacks in Poonch, Gandarbal, and other places like Gulmarg.
What happened to that terrorist group? You rushed to declare a ceasefire,” he added. He went on to suggest that the government has replaced accountability with theatrics. "Instead of answers, we are getting cheap dialogues for over a month," he said. Khera further said, "Ralliyo ka Prem Chopra, Trump ke aage kyu ro pada (We ask why the Prem Chopra of rallies cried in front of Donald Trump and didn't respond [on his claims])? If you don’t have the guts to answer him, why don’t you answer us?"
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also attacked the Centre on Tuesday, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave in to pressure from the United States during Operation Sindoor. Targeting PM Modi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, said, "Trump gave a sign from there. He (Trump) picked up his phone and said, 'Modiji, what are you doing? Narendra ... Surrender.' And PM Modi complied," Rahul Gandhi said while addressing a gathering in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal.Further, he also targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party, and its ideological parent, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), saying that they "surrender" whenever put under the slightest pressure.
"I am well aware of the BJP and RSS people. Apply a little pressure on them, give them a slight push, and they run away in fear," Gandhi said.He also took to social media to reiterate his charge, saying: "Trump called, and Narendra Modi surrendered. This is the history and character of BJP-RSS. In 1971, despite American threats, India split Pakistan. The lions and lionesses of Congress face superpowers; they don’t bow."Congress leaders' comments come in the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he played a role in ending the military escalation between India and Pakistan after India carried out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and PoJK in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.Following Operation Sindoor, which was conducted on May 7, both countries ceased further military action after a call from Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) to his Indian counterpart.
