US President Donald Trump has sought inputs from his military advisors about the effectiveness of bunker buster bombs against Iran’s nuclear sites, US news agencies Axios and Fox News has learnt.
Fox News’ senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy said that “bunker busters are just one of the options Trump is considering" and that the US President “has not yet decided to intervene in the Israel-Iran conflict".
Another official told news agency Axios that the Trump administration is not yet convinced that US intervention is “necessary".
“We’re going to be ready to strike Iran. We’re not convinced yet that we’re necessary. And we want to be unnecessary, but I think the President’s just not convinced we are needed yet," the official said.
Trump stopped short of confirming whether he had made a decision to join the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict but signaled the option remains on the table.
“I may do it, I may not do it… nothing is finished until it is finished," Trump said when asked about potential US intervention. He added, “We are not looking at a long term war. I just want them not to get a nuclear weapon."
Trump also said he has not conveyed any clear stance to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about deeper US involvement. “I told Netanyahu, ‘keep going.’ I talk to him every day. So far he is doing a good job," he said.
