Woman, 45, killed by wild elephant in Bijnor

Bijnor: A 45-year-old woman was allegedly killed by a wild elephant in the Mandawali area, Bijnor, on Friday morning when she went to collect milk from a dairy about 500 metres from her home.

Brahmavati, wife of Sundar Singh, was a resident of Rampur Chaanta village.Najibabad divisional forest officer Abhinav Raj said a team reached the spot after receiving information. “Prima facie, it appears the woman was killed by an elephant, but the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem,” he said.Residents, however, alleged that officials arrived nearly two hours after they informed the forest department and local police.The incident comes amid reports of increased movement of wild elephants in nearby villages in recent months. Locals have urged the administration to deploy rapid-response teams and take long-term measures to prevent such incidents.
