Woman, daughter drown in quarry pond

A 35-year-old woman and her daughter drowned in a quarry pond at Yagapuram Samathuvapuram in Thuvarankurichi police station limits in the district on Sunday evening. Police gave the names of the deceased as R. Ulagayi alias Ulaganayaki and her daughter R. Jayashree, 10.

Ulagayi and Jayashree went to the quarry pond to wash clothes and take bath. Jayashree drowned as she went inside the pond and her mother also drowned while trying to rescue her daughter. The local people searched for them on Sunday evening after they did not return home. The bodies were found floating on the pond on Monday morning. 

The bodies were sent for autopsy to the Government Hospital, Manapparai, and handed over to the family thereafter. The Thuvarankurichi police have registered a case, the sources added.
