Woman, daughter found dead in their Lakhisarai home

Patna: A 40-year-old widow and her teenage daughter were found dead in their bedroom at Mano English Bind Toli under Suryagarha police station area of Lakhisarai district on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Gauri Devi, wife of late Chhotu Bind, and their 16-year-old daughter, Kajal Kumari.The incident came to light around 9am when the door of the house remained locked and there was no movement inside. Kajal’s cousin, Pintu Kumar Bind (19), with the help of the villagers, got inside the house using a ladder and fainted upon seeing the bodies lying on the bed. The villagers somehow opened the door.Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to sadar hospital for a postmortem.SHO, Suryagarha, Bhagwan Ram, said prima facie the case appears to be deaths by suicide. “During an investigation, police found traces of vomit on the bed and surrounding areas. This raises the suspicion that they might have consumed poison; however, no poison bottle has been found in their room, which was locked from the inside.

No suicide note has been found either,” he said.The SHO said the police cannot rule out the possibility that they died of food poisoning. “The police called the FSL team to collect evidence from the spot. The actual reason behind the death will be known from their autopsy report. The police are investigating the case from all angles,” Ram said.According to the police, the woman and her daughter lived alone in a one-room house. The deceased’s relatives said Gauri’s husband, Chhotu, died in 2009. After his death, she took care of the children. Both of her sons are engaged as labourers in Delhi.
