Patna: A 35-year-old bangle shop owner, who was brutally beaten up allegedly by her neighbour on Aug 17 for demanding her dues, succumbed to the injuries at Begusarai Sadar Hospital on Thursday.
Kavita Kumari used to run the shop from her home in Deshri Karakh village under Bibhutipur police station in Samastipur district.Bibhutipur station house officer (SHO) Sunil Kumar Jha said no formal application has been submitted by the family yet. Further actions will be taken once they file an application, he said.According to Kavita’s husband Sanjay Kumar Sahni, their neighbour Savitri Devi and other women in her family had allegedly taken bangles worth Rs 2,000 from her but whenever she asked for the money, they made excuses.
“On Aug 17, the accused called Kavita to their house under the pretence of paying her back, but assaulted her instead and took away her mobile phone. Injured Kavita was taken to Begusarai Sadar Hospital, where she died during treatment,” the husband said.The family then took the body near the house of the accused, and started a protest, demanding action. Upon receiving the information, Bibhutipur police arrived at the scene, and assured the family of action before sending the body for postmortem to Samastipur Sadar Hospital, the SHO said.Kavita is survived by four children — Mayank Kumar (12), Aradhya Kumari (9), Manvi Kumari (6) and Anupriya (3).
