Woman dies after being run over by PMC truck in city

Patna: A 30-year-old woman was killed after being run over by a Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) garbage truck near Jakkhanpur Mor on Wednesday morning. The victim, identified as Heena Raj of Hanuman Nagar, fell off a Rapido bike and came under the truck around 10am, police said.

Her family has filed an FIR against the truck driver.According to police, the woman was on her way to work towards Mithapur when she lost balance and fell off the bike. She came directly into the path of an approaching PMC truck and was crushed, resulting in her death on the spot. Traffic inspector of Bypass, Neeraj, said, “We have seized the truck, but the driver has been absconding after the incident. The Rapido bike driver, however, has been identified through the booking details, and the investigation is underway.

Even though she was wearing a helmet, it was not strong enough to save her.”Neeraj said the deceased’s body was sent to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) for postmortem, and after completing the required process, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites,” he added.Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Anil Kumar said, “The incident took place in an area with no CCTV coverage, which is why the truck driver has not yet been identified.”

While the PMC commissioner could not be reached despite several attempt, PMC PRO Priya Saurabh said, “The truck was on its way to the Ramchak Bairiya landfill site after collecting garbage from the New Capital Circle when the incident occurred.” She clarified that the driver and the truck are not directly owned by the corporation but rented from an external agency.Meanwhile, agency owner Satyendra Kumar said, “We are trying to identify the truck driver to fully cooperate with the police investigation.” The contracting agency, run by Satyendra, holds a three-year contract with the PMC, which is set to expire this year. The agency supplies PMC with 10 trucks and 10 drivers. The PMC has not yet released any details regarding any compensation or financial assistance for the deceased’s family.
