A woman doctor was allegedly harassed by a biker while she was returning home from work in Bengaluru on Wednesday night. The incident took place in the AGB Layout area of Chikkabanavara, raising fresh concerns over women’s safety in the city, especially during late hours.
The doctor works at a private hospital located on Hesaraghatta Road and was walking back to her paying guest accommodation after completing her duty when the incident occurred.
What we know about the incident?
According to the complaint filed by the victim, an unidentified man riding a motorcycle approached her while she was walking alone. He initially started a conversation by asking her about the location of a bus stop. After briefly speaking to her, the man stopped his bike close by instead of leaving the area.
Police said the man then began behaving in an inappropriate manner. He allegedly made obscene gestures and attempted to touch the doctor, causing her distress and fear.
Accused flees
Sensing danger, the doctor raised an alarm and began screaming for help. Hearing her cries, the accused panicked and immediately fled the spot on his bike. The quick response by the victim is believed to have prevented further harm.
Local residents did not manage to catch the man as he escaped before anyone could intervene.
FIR registered
Following the incident, the doctor approached the Soladevanahalli Police Station and lodged a formal complaint. Based on her statement, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified accused.
Senior police officials confirmed that a case has been filed under relevant sections related to sexual harassment. A search operation has been launched to identify and trace the suspect.
As part of the investigation, police teams are scanning CCTV footage from nearby streets and buildings in the AGB Layout and Chikkabanavara areas. Officers are also questioning residents and shopkeepers to gather any information that could help identify the biker.
Police said efforts are being made to trace the registration number of the motorcycle involved.
