An RPF cop with the newly born baby at Muzaffarpur Junction
Patna: A 23-year-old woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl aboard the Avadh Assam Express (15910) early Thursday morning, prompting a quick and coordinated response from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and railway medical staff at Muzaffarpur Junction under Operation ‘Matri Shakti’.According to RPF inspector Manish Kumar, the team received an urgent alert via the ‘Rail Madad’ helpline regarding a woman in labour in sleeper coach S6. The passenger, identified as Baby Sultana, was travelling with her husband Alam Geer from Rohtak to New Cooch Behar in West Bengal.Before the train reached Muzaffarpur station, Sultana delivered the baby with assistance from fellow passengers. Upon arrival, the RPF team led by sub-inspector Shweta Lodhi, along with railway medical staff, were already on standby.
They immediately provided medical aid to both mother and child, who were later shifted to a local hospital. Both are reported to be in stable condition.Inspector Kumar highlighted the effectiveness of the ‘Rail Madad’ system in managing onboard emergencies, praising the swift coordination between passengers and railway authorities. Senior railway officials, including ECR’s RPF IG Amaresh Kumar, commended the RPF team for their timely intervention and dedication to passenger safety.In a separate incident on the same day, the RPF arrested a 22-year-old man named Riyaz, a resident of Muzaffarpur, in connection with phone theft at Muzaffarpur station. He was later remanded to judicial custody, sources said.
