Kolhapur: A 28-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death by his wife and her lover at their home in Sangli after he objected to their relationship, the police said on Friday. The duo has been arrested by the Vishrambaug police.The deceased, Anand Sarje, a resident of Pol Mala on 100ft Road, lived with his 23-year-old wife, Pallavi, and their two children, aged four years and six months. The police said Sarje had a love marriage, but tensions escalated after he learnt of his wife’s affair with his co-worker from a clothing store.According to the police, frequent arguments had broken out between Sarje and his wife in recent days over the relationship.
On Thursday morning, the couple fought again over a petty issue, after which Pallavi allegedly hatched the plan. Late that night, she called her lover, Deepak, home while Anand was asleep.The police said the accused allegedly tied Anand’s legs with a rope before sitting on his chest and strangling him using the same rope.In an attempt to pass it off as a natural death, the woman raised an alarm a few hours later, claiming her husband was not waking up.
Neighbours and relatives rushed him to a doctor, who spotted ligature marks on the neck and alerted the police, suspecting foul play.Inspector Sudheer Bhalerao, of the Vishrambaug police station, said, “The wife and her lover tried to make it look like a natural death, claiming that Anand had died naturally. He was taken to the hospital early in the morning on Friday. At that time, scratches were found on Anand Sarje’s neck. The postmortem revealed that he had been murdered. When questioned, the wife she gaved vague answers. When she was questioned thoroughly, she confessed to killing her husband with the help of her lover.
Further investigation is ongoing”.
