Police arrested a woman and her partner on Sunday in connection with a mass suicide case in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. Four members of a family, Manohar Lodhi (45), his mother Phoolrani (70), daughter Shivani (18) and his 16-year-old son, died by suicide on the night of July 25-26.

During the investigation, the police found that Manohar Lodhi’s wife, Draupadi, was in a relationship with a man named Surendra, who was also Manohar’s childhood friend.

The matter came to light when the daughter saw her mother with Surendra in a compromising situation and informed her father.

The family tried to speak and reason with Draupadi about the matter and asked her to end the relationship. However, she told the family that she could not live without Surendra and warned that she would take legal action under dowry laws if they continued to pressure her.

Manohar even appealed to Surendra to end the relationship, reminding him of their lifelong friendship, but he refused.

Police said that due to repeated threats and tensions in the household, the family reached a breaking point and died by suicide.

Following the investigation, police have sent Manohar’s wife, Draupadi, and her partner, Surendra, to jail.
