The regional capacity development workshop on National Plan of Action for Small-Scale Fisheries got under way on Wednesday at Mamallapuram near here. Participants from Bangladesh, India, Maldives, and Sri Lanka discussed various topics such as the possibilities of scaling successful models around the Bay of Bengal. The three-day regional meet is being organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of UN and the Bay of Bengal Programme (BOBP) Inter-Governmental Organisation, a release said. Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Government of India, Abhilaksh Likhi, inaugurated the workshop.
“BOBP was committed to assisting the small-scale fisheries in the region, and has already started the exercise to help the countries to move forward in developing country-specific action plans for improving the small-scale fisheries sector,” its Director P. Krishnan said.
