Rourkela: Women cricketers from Rourkela, who play for the senior state team, are upbeat after the India women’s team won the World Cup late on Sunday and said the victory will inspire all those women and girls who play cricket.Sangita Khadia (26), currently the vice-captain of the Odisha team, stays at Sector-6 with her parents. A middle-order bat and fast bowler, Sangita said, “This is incredible. I will say this is the hard work of each member of the women’s team. I saw the entire match and winning the World Cup is incredible.”Sangita said the victory will definitely motivate the girls to play cricket and their parents will also be more willing to let their daughters play the game.
“I also aspire to represent the country and earn glory for my country,” she said.Jyoti Kumari Prasad (21), residing near Mangal Bhawan, is a leg-spinner and batsman. She has been playing for the senior team for the last four years. “I saw the entire match. I am very pleased that our women’s team has lifted the World Cup. As a cricketer, this victory will not only motivate us to perform better, but also motivate girls to take up cricket,” said Jyoti, who picked Deepti Sharma’s performance as the best.
The 30-year-old D Janki Reddy, a resident of Sector-6, is a middle-order batsman and right-arm off spinner. She felt the World Cup victory will motivate parents to allow daughters to play cricket. “As a cricketer, I am extremely delighted with this victory. Hope this victory will motivate parents to let their daughters play cricket,” Janki said.
