Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday expressed serious concern over the escalating global tensions, warning that the world is edging closer to the possibility of a third world war. Gadkari made the remarks while speaking at a launch of the book 'Beyond Borders' in Nagpur.

“There is an atmosphere of conflict around the world - between Israel and Iran as well as the war between Russia and Ukraine,” Gadkari stated. “The situation is such that there is a possibility of a third world war anytime in the backdrop of these wars.”

The union minister also highlighted the changing nature of modern warfare ands pointed to the increasing reliance on technology, particularly drones and missiles, which he said has rendered traditional military equipment like tanks and fighter jets less relevant.

“Due to the increasing technology of war, the dimensions of war have changed, and the use of missiles and drones has increased in the war, due to which the relevance of tanks and other types of aircraft is decreasing. Amidst all this, it has become difficult to protect humanity. Missiles are often fired at civilian settlements,” Gadkari said.

Gadkari also cautioned that although it may be uncomfortable to say, the current trajectory of international affairs appears to be moving “slowly towards destruction.”

“This has created a serious problem, and all these issues need to be discussed at the global level. It would not be right to say this, but this path is slowly moving towards destruction,” he added.
