Elon Musk is no longer a trillionaire after a sharp fall in the value of his companies wiped more than $100 billion from his fortune. The Tesla and SpaceX chief has now slipped back below the trillion-dollar mark, according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The drop comes after a sell-off in shares linked to SpaceX and wider weakness in the global stock markets. Musk’s net worth is now estimated at around $956–957 billion, down from above $1 trillion earlier this month when SpaceX briefly pushed him into historic territory.
Musk had become the world’s first trillionaire just under two weeks ago after SpaceX shares surged following their stock market debut, pushing the company’s valuation sharply higher.
