Kumari Lalita Anapur, chairperson of City Municipal Council (CMC), Yadgir, conducted a cleaning drive on Saturday as part of an initiative for cleanliness to keep the city clean and ensure a good environment.
Ms. Anapur, along with the pourakarmikas and officials, visited several streets to address the garbage issue and weeds that had grown on the roadsides.
The pourakarmikas initially started cleaning weeds growing between the road divider from Ambedkar Circle to Church near the tahsildar’s office.
Earlier, Ms. Anapur had appealed to the citizens to join hands with CMC by sending GPS photos of uncleaned garbage. “After the appeal, several photos from different wards were shared in the WhatsApp group created, and immediately we took action and cleaned the garbage and uploaded the photos of the cleaned area to social media,” Ms. Anapur told The Hindu.
The CMC has shown its concern towards health issues, which are frequently reported, in animals after consuming the plastic carry bags.
Making another video appeal, Ms. Anapur requested the citizens to use cloth-made bags instead of plastic bags for carrying vegetables and other essential household commodities.
“It is everybody’s duty to protect the environment. The CMC would appreciate the public’s response in protecting nature,” she said, adding that the CMC would encourage the citizens to plant trees to make the environment greener.
