District Collector Sumit Kumar and Superintendent of Police Manikantha Chandolu on Monday jointly inaugurated Yogandhra -2025 programme held at Puligundu, a famous tourism spot near Penumuru, 25 km from Chittoor. The event witnessed the participation of about 3,000 participants including youth, women, and officials.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector highlighted the importance of making yoga a part of daily life. He said that every person, irrespective of age and gender, should inculcate a habit of practicing yoga for at least 30 minutes a day, and this could significantly reduce stress and prevent health issues.
He said that as part of the ongoing yoga festival, scheduled from May 21 to June 21 at various levels from village to district headquarters, the special focus would be on promoting yoga at tourist spots. “As part of the month-long schedule, a major yoga camp was conducted at the Kanipakam temple. The overwhelming participation of the public is a testimony to the growing awareness of the importance of yoga,” Mr. Kumar said.
SP Manikantha Chandolu appealed to the public to understand the message enshrined in the practice of yoga and incorporate it along with other healthy eating habits.
The officials informed the Collector that so far 2.5 lakh people have registered for the Yogandhra event across Andhra Pradesh. At the same time, Chittoor has over 5,000 trained yoga instructors who were roped in to conduct yoga camps across the district.
