On October 27, actor Yoo Jun-sang made headlines after confessing that he was once stabbed on stage during the musical 'Robin Hood'. According to Yonhap News, the incident occurred when a co-star's sword accidentally struck him in the forehead during a live performance.
"My forehead split open, and blood poured down my face," Yoo recalled. "Because the lyrics at that moment talked about blood, I wiped it away and sang even more fiercely. The audience must have thought it was part of the performance."
"I got 11 stitches during intermission"
In a testament to his professionalism-or sheer willpower-Yoo continued the show despite the severe wound. "There was a plastic surgery clinic on the eighth floor of the theater," he said.
"During the intermission, I found a doctor who was just about to go home. He stitched me up-11 stitches, no anesthesia-and I went straight back on stage." Yoo explained that canceling the performance could have caused massive financial losses for the production company, so he endured the pain and finished the show.
Filming 'Fist of Legend' through torn ligaments
Yoo also recalled another life-threatening experience while filming the action movie 'Fist of Legend'.
"Before a crucial fight scene, my cruciate ligament snapped," he revealed. "I was told to return to Seoul for surgery, but rebuilding the set would have cost more than 5 crore INR (around KRW 1 billion). I decided to film anyway, but ended up collapsing from hypothermia right after the director shouted 'cut.'"
"Tell my kids I was a good dad"
That day, Yoo was rushed to the hospital for the first time in his career. "I told Jung Doo-hong, 'Please tell my children I was a good father,'" he said. "Director Kang Woo-suk came to the hospital and cried." His story is a chilling reminder of how far passion can push an artist-and how sometimes, the show must literally go on.
