A heated
public spat
between
Tesla
CEO Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump has dramatically escalated in recent days, shifting from policy critiques to sharp personal attacks. The intense exchange, largely unfolding on social media, signals a significant fracture in their previously observed alliance. The friction reportedly ignited over President Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill," a comprehensive tax and spending package that Musk vociferously criticised, labelling it a "disgusting abomination" and warning it would "bankrupt America." Trump on the other hand publicly expressed his "disappointment" with Musk, suggesting the tech mogul's criticism stemmed from the bill's elimination of certain electric vehicle tax credits. However, now it appears that Tesla CEO is softening his stance, hinting at a possible cooling-off period. In a series of posts on X, Musk responded positively to calls for de-escalation.
Elon Musk’s posts indicate a shift in tone
Billionaire investor Bill Ackman posted on X about the ongoing fight between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. Supporter of both Musk and Trump, Ackman asked the two to make peace for the sake of the country. “I support @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk and they should make peace for the benefit of our great country. We are much stronger together than apart,” wrote Ackman.
Musk replied simply: “You’re not wrong.”
In another post, Musk agreed to decommission Dragon spacecraft. Recently, President Donald Trump announced that he will terminate governmental subsidies and contracts given to Elon Musk in order to money in the country’s budget. To this Elon Musk replied that he will decommission the dragon spacecraft. “In light of the President’s statement about cancellation of my government contracts,@SpaceXwill begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately,” wrote Musk on X.
However, soon after that an X user advised Musk and Trump to cool off and take a step back for a couple days. “This is a shame this back and forth. You are both better than this. Cool off and take a step back for a couple days,” wrote X user @Fab25june. • Musk responded: “Good advice. Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.”
Elon Musk and Donald Trump’s public fight
The public fight between Elon Musk and Donald Trump started after Musk criticised Trump’s tax and spending bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” Trump retaliated by threatening to cancel government contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX and Tesla. Musk then suggested Trump’s name appeared in sealed Jeffrey Epstein files, further escalating tensions.
