NFL star Travis Kelce had a decision to make after 12 long seasons. He’s 35 now and has won three Super Bowls. Many fans wondered if he would finally walk away from football. But instead of announcing retirement, Kelce shared something unexpected.

He’s coming back and there’s a reason behind it that fans didn’t see coming.

Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, spoke to the press on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, concerning his plans. Many people believed he might retire after turning 35 last October and concluding his 12th NFL season. Kelce made it quite plain, though, that he will return next year.

He said the decision was easy. “I love football. I didn’t really think too much about it,” Travis Kelce opened up during the team’s mandatory minicamp in Kansas City. He added,

“I love coming in every day.

I love the people here.”After a heartbreaking Super Bowl defeat against the Philadelphia Eagles, Travis Kelce's most recent season came to a close; he stayed with that game. He observed, "It didn’t feel like my last game. I still feel like I have more to give.”Travis Kelce also said he waited until his emotions subside before making a decision. “You don’t want to decide something that big when you’re still upset,” he observed. "But even after that, I knew I wanted to come back.”

Travis Kelce didn’t join the team for OTAs, but he’s back for mandatory minicamp and fully focused on the new season.

When we needed them, I did not lead well or make enormous plays."Travis Kelce has one year remaining on his present contract. Asked if this might be his last season, he implied he could play longer. “We’ll figure it out next year,” he said. “I can’t see myself playing for any other team.”The Chiefs are seen as top contenders again. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, they are tied with the Eagles for the second-best odds to win the title in 2025.
