Youth found dead in Cachar paddy field; one held, another on run

Silchar: A 28-year-old man was found dead in a paddy field in Nishchintapur village near the Bangladesh border in Cachar district early on Saturday, with police suspecting foul play. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.The deceased was identified as Jamrul Islam, alias Sajai, son of Hani Mia. Police said Jamrul had returned to the village from his workplace in Meghalaya on Friday evening, along with two other youths. While the others reached their respective homes, Jamrul did not return that night.On Saturday morning, Hani Mia went out in search of his son and found Jamrul’s body lying in a paddy field, a short distance from their residence. The incident sparked panic and anger among villagers, who soon gathered at the spot.One of the youths who travelled to Cachar with Jamrul was arrested. He was reportedly last seen with the victim on Friday night. The other youth who had travelled with them is absconding.A team from the Gumra police investigation centre, led by officer-in-charge Pranab Mili, rushed to the scene and recovered the body. It was later sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
