A youth was killed and four others were seriously injured when a speeding SUV crashed into a pillar of the elevated highway along National Highway-66 near Kazhakuttam on Saturday night.
The deceased has been identified as Shibin of Balaramapuram. The incident occurred around 11.45 p.m.
The injured persons, identified as Rajneesh, 27, of Marayamuttom, Kiran, 29, of Pongumoodu, Akhila, 28, of CVR Puram, and Sreelakshmi, 23, of Kaimanam. They have been admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital.
The vehicle is reported to have been travelling at an extremely high speed from Chakka towards Kazhakuttam when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then rammed a concrete pillar. The vehicle overturned in the impact, causing major disruption to traffic for nearly half an hour.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident.
