1,300 to get degrees at IIT-P convocation

Patna: Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IIT-P) will hold its 12th annual convocation on Tuesday. More than 1,300 scholars who have successfully completed their studies over the past year will be awarded their degrees.

Four gold medals and 28 silver medals will also be presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance. IIT-P director T N Singh said on Sunday that Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address. Union minister of state for home Nityanand Rai and Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal's organising secretary B R Shankaranand will attend as distinguished guests. Providing a breakdown of the degree recipients, Singh said 445 BTech students, 47 BSc students and eight students in the dual-degree B Tech-MBA programme will receive degrees. Also, 207 students will be awarded MTech degrees, 85 will receive MSc degrees and 64 researchers will be conferred PhD degrees. A further 221 students will graduate in hybrid MTech programmes and 243 in hybrid MBA programmes.

IIT-P registrar A K Thakur said all graduates would attend the convocation in traditional Indian attire. Male students will wear plain white kurta-pajamas while female scholars will wear either plain white kurtas with white bottoms or white sarees with a thin golden border. He added that a rehearsal for the convocation will be held at 4pm on Monday.
