With ₹10 crore Union government assistance hanging in the balance, directors of the Mysore Print and Paper Cluster Foundation (MPPCF – Mysore Printing Cluster) have urged the district administration to expedite land allotment for their long-pending industrial cluster project.
A delegation led by cluster director and Andolana’s managing editor, Rashmi Koti, along with Suresh Kumar Jain, general secretary of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Council (MSME Council), submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner seeking immediate approval of the Printers Cluster Common Facility Centre project and allotment of land to the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) units.
According to the memorandum, the project has been progressing slowly since 2013 despite the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) reserving 7.8 acres of land at the Koorgalli Industrial Area in 2016. The Foundation stated that the government of India has sanctioned ₹10 crore in assistance for the project, and it will be released only after allotment of land to the cluster SPV units.
The State government has already appointed a consultant for the implementation of the project. “Once operational, the Print and Paper Cluster is expected to benefit over 300 printing and allied industries across Mysuru district,” according to the delegation.
As a similar print park at Harohalli near Bengaluru is functioning successfully with support from both the Union and State governments, they urged authorities to extend similar facilitation to the Mysuru project.
