State Congress president Jitu Patwari raised serious concerns over how people were mobilised for the event

The Congress in Madhya Pradesh has called for a judicial inquiry into a deadly road accident in Chhindwara that claimed 10 lives and left 31 people injured on Thursday. The party has blamed administrative lapses and alleged that the tragedy was linked to a political event held earlier in the day.
The accident took place around 7 pm near Simaria on Nagpur Road when a bus collided with a pick-up vehicle. The bus was carrying people returning from a government function where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 506 crore.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari raised serious concerns over how people were mobilised for the event. In a Facebook post, he alleged that large numbers were brought in through pressure and inducements, which contributed to the incident.
Calling the accident a “collective failure" of the government, Patwari accused authorities of negligence and demanded strict action. He said criminal cases should be filed against officials and organisers responsible for the arrangements.
Several innocent people lost their lives due to “political showmanship", he claimed.
“People were forced to gather through administrative and police pressure. No adequate security arrangements were made despite the programme being pre-announced. There should be an impartial judicial inquiry into the incident and its report must be made public," he said.
Patwari also urged the government to ensure proper medical care for those injured and to provide fair compensation to the families of the victims.
Meanwhile, a relative of one of the deceased, Sunil Pawar, alleged that vehicles packed with people were sent to the Chief Minister’s event on the instructions of the local panchayat.
The incident has sparked political tensions in the state, with the opposition demanding accountability and transparency in the handling of the case.
