At least 14 people were killed after a pickup vehicle carrying devotees plunged into a well in Maharashtra’s Pandharpur on Sunday, officials said.

According to preliminary information, the vehicle was transporting a group of pilgrims when the driver reportedly lost control, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a nearby well. Several passengers were trapped inside the vehicle after it plunged into the water.

Rescue teams, local residents and police personnel rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Authorities recovered multiple bodies from the well, while some injured passengers were pulled out and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Pandharpur, one of Maharashtra’s most important pilgrimage centres, witnesses a large influx of devotees throughout the year, particularly during religious events and temple visits.
