Dhanbad: Food safety officials seized 1,400 kg of adulterated paneer and six large cans of ghee (clarified butter) which arrived from Bihar in a bus on Thursday. Officials said the consignment, priced at Rs 3 lakh, was brought for supply to local restaurants and eateries.Based on a tip-off, a team raided a bus (BR 21P 3632) which stopped at Puja Talkies. The team, which was waiting at the spot, surrounded the surrounded the vehicle and launched the raid. District food safety officer Dr Raja Kumar, who led the operation, conducted an on-the-spot starch test on the paneer samples. All the samples failed the preliminary test. A heavy police contingent led by DSP Dhirendra Baka was present at the spot during the raid.
“The samples of the seized products have been sent to the state food testing laboratory in Ranchi for detailed analysis. Strict legal action will be initiated against the suppliers under the Food Safety and Standards Act once the laboratory report is received,” Kumar said.
