Taylor Swift is back in a very 2009 conversation, and this time the credit came straight from Miley Cyrus. In a new interview with Variety, Cyrus looked back on Hannah Montana: The Movie and explained how Swift’s song You’ll Always Find Your Way Back Home made it into the film’s final act. That alone was enough to stir nostalgia. But the timing added another layer. Just days after Swift made a low-key Oscars afterparty appearance with Travis Kelce, Cyrus’ comments pushed her name into another pop culture cycle, this time tied to one of Disney’s biggest movie-era soundtracks.

Miley Cyrus put Taylor Swift’s role in ‘Hannah Montana: The Movie’ back on the record

Cyrus told Variety that Swift did not just randomly land on the soundtrack. She said Swift pitched the song during the film’s development, when the team was trying to find the right ending.

“Taylor had pitched that song along with a lot of other writers and songs, and we were just kind of curating the thing that would most kind of bring the story of the film to life,” Cyrus said.

She then explained why that specific track worked for the finale. “So we wanted a really big song for the finale of that. It needed to feel celebratory because, you know, obviously Miley had just told the biggest secret.”Cyrus added, “And so we needed something that felt like the kind of balloon that drops all the way down you get grounded, you get still but then it needs to go all the way back up.

And so I love that song.”That is the real story hook here. Swift was not just another name attached to a Disney movie soundtrack. According to Cyrus, her song helped carry the emotional close of the film. For context, Hannah Montana: The Movie came out in 2009. Swift also appeared in the film and wrote another song, Crazier. So this is old material, but Cyrus’ latest comments gave it a fresh push and put Swift’s contribution back into the spotlight.

Taylor Swift’s quiet Oscars party appearance added another layer to the week

Swift also made news this week for a very different reason. According to Page Six, she and Kelce kept a low profile during Oscars weekend but were spotted at exclusive afterparties in Los Angeles, including Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s Chateau Marmont bash and Madonna and Guy Oseary’s party. That matters because it shows how Swift stayed in the headlines without saying a word. One moment, she is being discussed in connection with Kelce and a private Oscars-night appearance.

The next, Cyrus is publicly crediting her for helping shape the closing number of a major Disney movie. It is a strong reminder of how Swift’s older work keeps resurfacing, especially when someone else tells the story. This time, it was Cyrus doing it, and she did not leave much room for confusion about the song’s place in the movie. The bigger takeaway is simple. Swift’s role in Hannah Montana: The Movie was not just a cameo and a soundtrack credit buried in the past. Cyrus just made clear that one of the film’s key songs mattered to the ending, and Swift was the writer behind it.
