Eighteen people, including children, have died from a mysterious fever in Chayansa village, Palwal district. Among the deceased are nine children aged between 11 and 14 years, with three currently hospitalised at Nalhar Medical College in Nuh Mewat. Fear has gripped the villagers as these deaths have all occurred within a month. Residents are attributing the outbreak to contaminated drinking water, pointing out that broken water pipelines are leaking polluted water throughout the village.
Despite repeated complaints to the health department, the water supply issue remains unresolved. The health department has deployed a team to investigate the situation. So far, 21 people have tested positive for hepatitis B and C. District Medical Officer Dr. Satinder Vashisht confirmed ongoing tests and attributed the deaths to hepatitis and jaundice, noting that seven fatalities have been recorded in the village.
Village Sarpanch Mohammad Islam emphasised that a mysterious fever has claimed 18 lives, including nine children, within a month. He stated that hepatitis B and C are spreading, causing these fatalities. The health department acknowledges seven to eight deaths, but the actual number is 18, according to the Sarpanch. District Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar Vashisht and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Satinder Vashisht have visited the village, with their team conducting medical checkups and identifying 21 positive cases for hepatitis B and C.
