The Maharashtra government on Monday appointed Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Rajesh Kumar as the new Chief Secretary of the state.

Rajesh Kumar, a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, succeeded Sujata Saunik, who retired on the same day, according to an official statement.

According to an order issued by V Radha, Additional Chief Secretary (Services), General Administration Department, Kumar will continue to hold his current role in the revenue department alongside his new responsibilities.

Kumar has previously served as CEO of the Beed Zilla Parishad and as collector in Dharashiv and Jalgaon districts.

He has held the position of Additional Chief Secretary since 2020 and is set to retire on August 31.
