Tonk,UPDATED: Feb 16, 2026 13:50 IST

Two decomposed bodies were recovered from a submerged car that was pulled out of Ram Sagar pond in Rajasthan’s Tonk district on Sunday, police said.

The car came into view after the water level in the pond dropped due to irrigation pumping in Awa village. Locals first noticed the roof of the submerged vehicle, following which the Duni police station team was alerted.

Police used equipment to retrieve the car from the pond. Upon opening the vehicle, officers found the bodies of two young men in a highly decomposed state. The discovery drew a large crowd to the spot.

Preliminary information suggests that the deceased may be two youths from a village in neighbouring Bundi district who had been reported missing since January 8. Police said identification would be confirmed after due procedures.

Arrangements were being made to conduct the post-mortem examination at the site. Officials said it was too early to determine whether the deaths were the result of a planned murder or an accident, and an investigation is underway.
