In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, a high-speed Mahindra Thar ran over three people, leaving two dead and one injured.
The incident occurred around 1.30 am last night. The victims, identified as Jitendra Verma and his wife Sarita Verma, were returning from a wedding ceremony when the speeding Thar rammed into their motorcycle.
The impact of the collision was so severe that Jitendra died immediately on the spot. Sarita was taken to the district hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Meanwhile, Maya Devi, Jitendra’s sister-in-law, who was also travelling with the family, sustained critical injuries. She is presently undergoing treatment at the Lucknow Medical College.
It has come to light that the thar driver was also returning from a wedding ceremony in Shahjahanpur at the time of the crash.
The police have launched a detailed probe into the matter.
Talking about the incident, Yadvendra Yadav, a senior police officer, told presspersons, “Local police and emergency services rushed to the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The Thar was seized by the police, and a formal complaint was registered based on the statements of the family members.”
He further added that the bodies of the victims were sent for a post-mortem and investigation is underway against the driver.
