Ghaziabad: Two people were killed and three injured after their car collided with a divider on NH-58 early on Thursday morning. The group of six was travelling to Meerut after visiting Delhi for the day.ACP (Modinagar) Bhaskar Verma said a commuter called the emergency helpline 112 around 5.40am to report the accident.“We received information that the car suddenly went out of control, first colliding with a divider and then crashing into an RRTS pillar in front of the State Employees Insurance Commission office in Modinagar. The car overturned twice before falling onto the road. Of the six people inside, five were trapped.
One person escaped without any injuries,” the ACP said.Verma said the vehicle was badly damaged and all men left inside were severely injured. Cops rushed them to a nearby hospital where Ankit Kumar, a resident of Loni, and Aadesh, a resident of Kunda in Meerut, were declared dead.Kumar was driving at the time. The injured men – Kuldeep, Adesh Pal and Himanshu – are still at the hospital while Rohit, who was uninjured, returned to Meerut to inform his friends’ families.
All five except Kumar were residents of Meerut.Cops suspect the driver may have dozed off while driving at a high speed, which led to him losing control of the vehicle and crashing. “The damaged vehicle was removed from the road and placed on the roadside. We are checking the CCTV cameras of the area and an investigation is underway,” the ACP said.No complaint has been filed so far and the bodies have been sent for autopsy, results of which are awaited.
A police officer said that eyewitnesses reported the car was being driven at a very high speed. On April 21, two minors died while two others were critically injured after their two-wheeler was hit by an Ertiga car on Kanawani-Pusta Road in the Indirapuram area. Police registered an FIR and the accused driver was subsequently arrested.Rash driving and speeding were the leading causes of road accidents in Ghaziabad last year, when traffic police issued 22,724 challans for rash driving and 24,194 for speeding. In 2025, the district recorded a total of 1,097 accidents, where 400 people died and 849 were injured. In 2024, 381 people died and 781 were injured across 996 accidents.
