In the wake of the Motor Vehicles department (MVD) imposing a fine of ₹250 on former Director General of Police (DGP) Tomin J. Thachankary over the alleged misuse of official insignia, the Kerala Home department has received a complaint seeking strict action against the retired IPS officer.

The complaint, filed by activist Kulathur Jaisingh, has sought the registration of a police case against Mr. Thachankary in the matter. It alleges that the action taken by the MVD amounts to an attempt to downplay the issue as a minor traffic violation, thereby avoiding deeper legal scrutiny. The complainant further pointed out that Mr. Thachankary had previously served as Transport Commissioner and argued that the matter should not be treated as a routine traffic offence, but investigated as a serious misuse of official symbols and authority.
