The investigation into the murder of Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal has brought to light extensive communication between the two accused, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary, with police claiming that their call records and digital interactions helped uncover what investigators describe as a premeditated conspiracy.

According to Pune Rural Police sources, Siya and Chetan had been in contact for nearly three years.

Investigators examined records of 2,004 calls exchanged between the duo between January and June this year. The analysis revealed that they spent a cumulative 238 hours talking to each other over the six months.

Police sources said the frequency and duration of the conversations significantly strengthened suspicions about the relationship between the two accused and their involvement in Ketan’s death at Lohagad Fort near Lonavala on June 18.

THOUSANDS OF CALLS, HOURS OF CONVERSATIONS

According to investigators, Siya and Chetan remained in regular contact through direct phone calls, WhatsApp calls and FaceTime conversations.

Police sources said scrutiny of call detail records revealed an unusually high volume of communication between the two.

News agency PTI quoted an investigating officer as saying, “We found thousands of calls exchanged between the two over an extended period, including several conversations lasting for hours."

“The technical analysis established a close connection between the duo and pointed towards a well-thought-out conspiracy," the officer added.

According to IANS, police also discovered that Chetan operated a shop in Pune’s Market Yard area, where Siya’s family business is located.

MURDER PLOT ALLEGEDLY FINALISED DAYS BEFORE INCIDENT

Police sources said the alleged conspiracy was finalised on June 16 and 17. Investigators believe the duo used multiple communication platforms to discuss and coordinate the plan.

According to the probe, Siya took Ketan to Lohagad Fort on June 18 while Chetan had already reached the location.

Police allege that after identifying a secluded spot, Chetan attacked Ketan and pushed him into a gorge.

Investigators have also pointed to suspicious digital activity on the day of the incident. According to police sources, Chetan’s internet remained switched off continuously from 7 am until 5.40 pm on June 18.

Police further learnt that he allegedly left his own mobile phone at his shop and travelled to Lohagad carrying a mobile phone belonging to one of his employees in an attempt to avoid location tracking.

CCTV FOOTAGE HELPED INVESTIGATORS

The breakthrough in the case came after investigators reviewed CCTV footage from Lohagad Fort. PTI reported that police noticed a hooded man following Ketan and Siya shortly before the incident.

“The man was wearing shorts and a hoodie. The front part of the hoodie was pulled so low that his face could not be seen. Additionally, the man was wearing a headset over the hoodie," an officer involved in the investigation said.

Police found it unusual that the individual was wearing a hoodie despite temperatures reaching around 33 degrees Celsius.

Investigators later identified the man as Chetan Chaudhary after comparing CCTV images with photographs and social media profiles.

According to the police, the motive behind the alleged murder stemmed from Siya’s relationship with Chetan and her unwillingness to proceed with her marriage to Ketan.

Investigators learnt that Siya and Ketan, who got engaged in February, were scheduled to marry later this year. Their wedding was planned in Udaipur in November, and a palace had already been booked for the ceremony.

During questioning, police asked Chetan why the couple had not chosen to run away together.

According to investigators, he replied that Siya did not want to break off the engagement and elope because she believed it would bring disrespect to her family.

Based on call records, CCTV evidence and technical analysis, police subsequently arrested Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary and booked them on charges of murder and criminal conspiracy. The investigation remains ongoing.
