3.1 quake wakes up Qutbullapur near Vikarabad

A 3.1 magnitude earthquake shook the residents of Qutbullapur village near Vikarabad in Telangana on early on Thursday (August 14, 2025) morning at 3:56 a.m.. The quake recorded by the National Centre for Seismology had its epicentre west of the Qutbullapur village in farmlands at a depth of 10 km. There are no reports of loss of life or property at the time of filing of this report.

Residents of many areas reported feeling the tremors and rushed out while most of the residents in surrounding villages did not feel the tremors. According to media reports, Rangapur, Barlapalli, and Nayamath Nagar were some of the villages where residents said they felt the tremors.

Earthquakes are rare in the Deccan most of which is in what seismologists call Stable Continental Region (SCR). The unexpected movement prompted some people to rush out of their homes who returned back as there were no aftershocks.
