3 galleries to honour Goa’s tribal freedom fighters

Porvorim: A new museum with three galleries dedicated to Goa’s tribal freedom fighters will be set up at Bandora, Ponda, said chief minister Pramod Sawant in a written reply before the Goa legislative assembly on Wednesday.Gallery one will showcase tribal culture and lifestyle, offering insights into traditions and daily life. Gallery two will focus on Goa’s Liberation struggle, and Gallery three will serve as a hall of fame honouring unsung heroes, Sawant said.The chief minister was responding to the question by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Lourenco. “The Tribal Research Institute, Goa, has constituted a steering committee led by the secretary, tribal welfare, to develop content for the tribal freedom fighters museum,” he said.The proposed museum will be a concrete structure with ground plus two floors, located at survey No. 220 in Bandora. It will cover 6,000sqm, with a built-up area of approximately 2,308.8sqm.The facility will include amenities such as an auditorium, an exhibition hall, multi-purpose halls, souvenir shops, a food court, and toilet blocks, he said.Fourth Dimension Architects Pvt Ltd, Pune, have been appointed as project consultants. The museum’s construction and curation are estimated at Rs 27.6 crore, with Rs 15 crore sanctioned by the ministry of tribal affairs. Construction is set to begin soon, with a 365-day timeline (excluding monsoon) to ensure timely completion.Govt has also been criticised over the delay in constructing the Tribal Bhavan.
