Two people died in separate electrocution incidents in Dombivli and Mumbra during heavy rain. The deaths have renewed concerns over exposed electrical infrastructure and possible negligence.

Authorities are investigating both cases to determine accountability.
Two people, including a 42-year-old woman and a 17-year-old girl, died of electrocution in separate rain-related incidents in Maharashtra on Wednesday, raising fresh concerns over electrical safety amid heavy monsoon showers.
The first incident occurred in Dombivli's Hanuman Nagar, where Shashi Rahul Chakr (42) allegedly came into contact with electricity from a live power line lying on a waterlogged road. According to local residents, the woman had stepped out of her house to buy breakfast for her children when she walked through rainwater that had become electrified after a power line reportedly fell on the road.
Residents rushed to rescue her, but the electric current was so strong that she died on the spot. Shashi is survived by her husband, Rahul Chakr, and two young children. The incident sparked outrage among locals, who accused Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) of negligence and demanded strict action against the officials responsible, along with improved electrical safety measures during the monsoon. Tilaknagar Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
17-YEAR-OLD GOT ELECTROCUTED
In another tragic incident, a 17-year-old girl, identified as Aaliya, died after being electrocuted in Mumbra, Thane district. Police said the teenager, a resident of B-Wing of Yasmin Park, had stepped outside her residential building during heavy rainfall when she came into contact with rainwater that had become electrically charged.
Family members and local residents rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation to ascertain how the rainwater became electrified and whether any negligence was involved.
Following the incident, local corporator Shoaib Dongre visited the spot and urged the administration to conduct a comprehensive inspection of electrical infrastructure in the area. He also called for immediate measures to prevent similar tragedies during the ongoing monsoon season.
The two incidents have once again highlighted concerns over exposed electrical infrastructure and the risks posed by waterlogging during heavy rains. Authorities are investigating both cases to determine accountability and prevent the recurrence of such fatal accidents.
Yesterday, two young women were hospitalised after receiving an electric shock from an exposed wire in a waterlogged area of Navi Mumbai amid heavy monsoon rains. The electrified water resulted from a short circuit beneath the Nerul LP Bridge. A viral video shows their rescue during heavy rainfall. The Mayor condemned inadequate safety measures, ordered investigations, and urged repairs to prevent future incidents. Meanwhile, heavy rains disrupted transport and caused widespread waterlogging across Mumbai and its suburbs.
