UJJAIN: A three-year-old girl who was attacked by a stray dog in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district has received 50 stitches on her face. Doctors stated that plastic surgery is necessary for her condition. The canine attack occurred last Saturday in Delwadi village while the girl was playing outside her home. The attack left deep wounds on her face, nose, lips, and eyelids. Her family members first took her to the Agar-Malwa district hospital for admission. She was then admitted to the state-run Maharaja Yashwantrao Chikitsalaya (MYH) in Indore on Monday for further treatment, news agency PTI reported.“About 50 stitches were applied to the girl’s face. She also had severe injuries around her lower eyelid, nose, and lips.
Primary surgical treatment was performed to reattach the skin and control the bleeding,” Dr Jitendra Kaithwal, an anesthesiologist involved in the girl’s treatment, said.He stated that because she requires specialized plastic surgery to avoid permanent facial disfigurement, the girl was referred to MYH in Indore for additional treatment.Recent stray dog attacks have caused growing concern in local villages.
In a separate incident reported on Friday, a 35-year-old woman lost her life after a pack of stray dogs attacked her in Barwani town, PTI reported.Last November, the Supreme Court (SC) acknowledged the “alarming rise” in dog-bite incidents across locations like railway stations, hospitals, and educational institutions. The SC also ordered that stray dogs be shifted to designated shelters following sterilization and vaccination.(With agency inputs)
