Train access in west Bengaluru is set to improve as the Railways introduce new stoppages at Nayandahalli station, a move expected to make long distance and intercity travel more convenient for thousands of commuters. The decision comes in response to growing demand from residents in rapidly expanding neighbourhoods who have long sought better rail connectivity closer to home.
Four Express Trains to Halt at Nayandahalli
The Railway Department has approved halts for four major express trains at Nayandahalli railway station. These stoppages will allow passengers to board and alight at Nayandahalli instead of travelling to KSR Bengaluru City or other distant stations.
Express Trains Approved for Stoppage
| Train | Train No. | Route |
| Chamundi Express | 16215 / 16216 | Mysuru – Bengaluru |
| Basava Express | 17307 / 17308 | Mysuru – North Karnataka |
| Gol Gumbaz Express | 16535 / 16536 | Bengaluru – Vijayapura/Bagalkot region |
| Mysuru–Tuticorin Express | 16235 / 16236 | Mysuru – Tuticorin |
Railway officials said the inclusion of these trains fulfils a long-standing demand from the local population.
Major Relief for West Bengaluru Residents
The new halts will benefit residents of Nayandahalli and nearby localities including Vijayanagar, Govindarajanagar, Nagarabhavi, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Kengeri. Commuters travelling for work, education and long-distance journeys will now have easier access to trains without navigating traffic to reach central Bengaluru stations.
The move is expected to reduce travel time, lower last mile costs and ease congestion at major railway hubs.
Railway Overbridge to Ease Road Congestion
Alongside the train stoppages, a newly constructed railway overbridge will also be opened. The bridge connects Pipeline Road in Vijayanagar with Padarayanapura, improving movement across the railway line.

Long-Pending Demand Addressed
As west Bengaluru continues to expand, infrastructure upgrades have become essential. The introduction of express train halts at Nayandahalli marks a significant step toward improving suburban rail access and strengthening the city’s transport network.
For daily commuters and long distance travellers alike, the change promises shorter travel times and greater convenience, bringing rail connectivity closer to the neighbourhoods that need it most.
