4 more held in Tirunelveli double murder

Tirunelveli: Tirunelveli police have arrested four more people in connection with the murder of a 40-year-old man by a gang on Thursday afternoon on the Karambai state highway near Kallidaikurichi.

They also caused the death of his five-year-old son when he fell off their two-wheeler which was rammed by the gang’s car.On Saturday, police had arrested three people. Following their sustained interrogation, four more accused were nabbed on Sunday — Manikandan, 30, Rajadurai, 30, Muthupattan, 20, and Mahalingam, 24, all hailing from Moolachi. Police said efforts are on to secure the remaining accused in the crime which happened on Thursday.The victim, Kalimuthu, a resident of Moolachi village, and his sons Chinnadurai, 15, and Jayaraj, 5, were thrown off their vehicle as the gang rammed their car against their two-wheeler . As the gang hacked Kalimuthu and severed his head with a sickle, Jayaraj died due to the impact of the fall. Chinnadurai is receiving treatment for fractures sustained in the fall. Senior police officials said the killings could be linked to a murder that took place between 2007 and 2010.
