In a tragic incident from Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district, a four-year-girl was dragged from her home and killed by a leopard, and her mutilated body was found inside a forest on Saturday.

The tragedy took place on Wednesday when the child, identified as Roshni Kumari, was playing outside her house in Valparai. Officials said the leopard allegedly dragged her into the nearby forest area, reported NDTV.

Following the incident, forest officials and the cops launched a thorough search operation to locate the girl. Teams equipped with searchlights, drones, and sniffer dogs were tasked with the responsibility of navigating the hilly terrain to locate the young victim.

The deceased girl is the daughter of migrant workers. As per reports, authorities had earlier located her blood-stained clothes from the estate area.

The search efforts came to an end after the child’s remains were found nearly 5 km from the Pachhamalai estate by forest officials and police. There was significant panic among local residents in the aftermath of the leopard attack.

Notably, Tamil Nadu’s plains and hill districts have increasingly seen man-animal conflicts, particularly involving leopards and elephants. In response to these attacks the Tamil Nadu Forest Department has been installing AI-based camera alert systems in sensitive areas to monitor wildlife movement and provide real-time warnings to residents.

This is the third leopard-related incident in the Valparai area in recent times. Last year in October, a four-year-old girl was killed by a leopard near Uzhemala estate while walking with her mother.
