40-year-old found hanging in police station in Koderma

Koderma: A 40-year-old man, who was taken into custody following a complaint of domestic violence by his wife, was found dead in Jainagar police station in Koderma district on Friday.DSP Ratibhan Singh, who has been given the charge to probe the death, said that Vijay Kumar Yadav was found hanging from the window bar of the room where he was lodged at around 10.30am.Kumar was taken into custody on Thursday after his wife, Chameli Devi, lodged a complaint accusing the man of frequently torturing her under the influence of alcohol.The DSP said, “The accused tore a blanket, wrapped it around his neck, and hung himself from the window bars of the room.”

Jainagar police rushed him to Sadar Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.Dr Anil Kumar, Koderma civil surgeon said, “The exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem.”Meanwhile, the wife of the deceased, in a petition to the Jainagar police station, claimed that her husband was physically assaulted by policemen which led to his untimely demise. She specifically named Katiya picket in-charge Pramod Kumar Singh, constable Deepak, and driver Chandan Singh as those responsible.

After the death, Koderma SP Anudeep Singh has relieved officer-in-charge of Jainagar PS, Umanath Singh, from his post and attached him to the police lines for further probe.“DSP Singh has been appointed to lead investigation. The post-mortem will be conducted under the supervision of a magistrate and a team of medical professionals. Anyone found guilty of misconduct would face strict legal action,” the SP added.
