Indore: A 42-year-old man was stabbed and beaten to death in Mandsaur on Saturday by father and relatives of a youth who had been allegedly murdered earlier this year by the man’s son.Additional SP Ter Singh Baghel said that the man, Ravi Mali, had gone to his field in Abhinandan Colony on Saturday morning to pluck flowers when he was allegedly ambushed by a group of assailants.
The attackers repeatedly stabbed him and assaulted him with iron rods before abandoning him in the field and fleeing from there.Locals spotted Ravi lying critically injured and alerted Dial 112. He was rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police said that the victim had multiple deep stab wounds and severe blunt force injuries. Blood stains and drag marks were found at the crime spot, indicating he was chased and assaulted before being killed.
A forensic team examined the scene, though no weapon has been recovered so far.City Kotwali police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused. Investigators suspect the killing to be retaliation for the murder of 19-year-old Arun Bargunda on the night of April 5-6. Ravi’s son, Yuvraj, and another accused, Rohit Chauhan, are currently lodged in jail in connection with that case.According to the investigation into Arun’s murder, the crime stemmed from a dispute nearly eight months earlier, during which Arun had allegedly slapped Yuvraj following an argument.
Police had then alleged that Yuvraj later lured Arun on the pretext of a compromise before fatally attacking him.Following Ravi’s murder, his family members and members of Mali community staged a protest, placing the body on the road and blocking traffic for nearly three hours. The protest was withdrawn after senior police officers assured them of strict action. The protesters demanded immediate arrest of all accused, demolition of their alleged illegal properties, a public procession of the accused, a magisterial inquiry and financial compensation for the victim’s family.Baghel said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and all angles were being investigated. Police teams have been formed to trace the absconding accused.
