The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Extension Corridor from Noida Sector 142 to Botanical Garden under the Noida Metro Rail Corporation project.

The new corridor will cover 11.56 km and include eight elevated stations. Once operational, Noida and Greater Noida will have a total active metro network of 61.62 km.

Here are five ways the extension corridor is expected to change Noida.

1. Better connectivity across key areas

The 11.56 km corridor will improve public transport in parts of Noida that currently lack efficient connectivity. It will also provide direct links to high-demand corridors, including interchange at Botanical Garden with the Blue Line and Magenta Line.

The extension will connect commercial hubs such as Advant Business Park in Sector 142, Skymark One Mall in Sector 98 and Mall of Noida in Sector 93.

It will also link major companies and IT hubs including Microsoft in Sector 145, TCS in Sector 157, Havells in Sector 126, Infosys in Sector 132, Cognizant in Sector 135, Adobe in Sector 132 and Oracle in Sector 127.

Educational institutions such as Amity University in Sector 125, Panchsheel Balak Inter College in Sector 91 and Mahamaya Balika Inter College in Sector 44 will also benefit. The line will improve access to Max Super Specialty Hospital in Sector 128 and tourist spots such as Botanical Garden and Sector 93 Park.

2. Reduction in traffic congestion

The metro will serve as an efficient alternative to road transport. The extension is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Noida and Greater Noida.

Less road traffic can lead to smoother vehicle movement, shorter travel times and improved road safety.

3. Environmental benefits

With the addition of the new corridor and the expansion of the overall metro network, carbon emissions can be reduced compared to fossil fuel-based transport.

This will support cleaner and more sustainable urban transport.

4. Boost to economic growth

Reduced travel times and better access to different parts of the city will improve productivity. The corridor will also improve connectivity to major transport hubs such as Delhi’s airport, railway stations and bus depots.

Better access can help local businesses near new metro stations and attract investment in areas that were previously less accessible.

5. Social impact

The extension will provide more equal access to public transport for different socio-economic groups. It will reduce transport gaps and improve access to jobs, education and essential services.

By cutting commute times and improving mobility, the corridor is expected to improve the overall quality of life in Noida and support the city’s long-term development and sustainability.
