At least 60 people were killed after strong storms, heavy rain and lightning hit several parts of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the state relief commissioner’s office, the deaths were reported from multiple districts, including Prayagraj, Kanpur Dehat and Fatehpur, after hailstorms and gusty winds battered the state.

The storm uprooted trees, damaged houses and disrupted electricity supply in many areas. Several people died after being struck by lightning or trapped under collapsed walls and falling trees. Agricultural losses were also reported from affected districts.

UP CM Directs Officials To Carry Out Relief Operation

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to carry out relief work on priority and asked district administrations to provide immediate assistance to affected families. He also instructed officials to survey crop damage and ensure compensation is distributed quickly.

The India Meteorological Department has warned of more rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in several districts over the next few days.
