₹61.5 lakh seized in crackdown on unaccounted money in Kasaragod

In a continuing crackdown on suspected hawala transactions, the police on Wednesday (April 1, 2026) seized ₹61.5 lakh at Kumbala in Kasaragod and arrested a man for allegedly transporting the cash. The development came hours after a separate seizure of ₹11.40 lakh in Kasaragod town.

The latest seizure was made around noon during a vehicle inspection near the Arikkady toll booth by a joint team of the District Police Chief’s squad and the Kumbla police. The arrested person was identified as Shabeer.

The police said the cash was concealed in a specially modified compartment in the car. The accused was allegedly transporting the money from Mangaluru to Kasaragod.
