Stepping up its efforts to curb the drug menace, the Mysuru City Police conducted an extensive enforcement drive across the city on February 12, inspecting 61 lodges and booking two persons under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The drive covered 61 lodges, 22 paying guest (PG) accommodation, and 41 parks. Police teams also combed city outskirts, including godowns and isolated houses, to check instances of drug sale, trafficking and consumption.
The operation was carried out as part of the ‘Vimukthi’ campaign, aimed at making Mysuru a drug-free city.
During the drive, 18 individuals were questioned on suspicion of drug consumption. Of them, two persons under the jurisdiction of Narasimharaja Police Station were confirmed for narcotic substance consumption.
A case has been registered against the duo under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act at the Narasimharaja Police Station.
As part of the ‘Vimukthi’ campaign, the police have prominently displayed the helpline number 8277948080 across public places in the city, urging citizens to report incidents related to drug sale, trafficking or substance abuse. Authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential.
