71 arrested in drug cases in 2025, says NTR Collector

Collector G. Lakshmisha announced that EAGLE police arrested 71 persons allegedly involved in drugs and ganja smuggling and consumption in 27 cases in NTR District in 2025, at the Narco-Coordination Centre (N-Cord) meeting held here on Tuesday.

He said that 150 hotspots were identified and vigil had been stepped up at open and abandoned places, river and canal bunds, parks and at under bridges to prevent illegal activities.

“Doctors, excise, counselling psychologists and police officers should focus on giving counselling to drug addicts at de-addiction centres,” the Collector said.

Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu said the response from the public for the ongoing ‘Drugs Pai Dandayatra’ has been good. Police, EAGLE and other department officers were organising awareness programmes against drugs, he added.

The Collector discussed on ‘Operation Safe Campus Zone’, vigil at hotspots and other activities with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Secretary K. Ramakrishnaiah and other officers.
